Good To Go

Grenache/Mourvèdre

M.P. Fowler’s Notes:

The Accident that Became My Favorite.

The Good to Go Grenache - Mourvèdre was an accident that started in 2022 - my first vintage. The only red wine I made that year was a Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre (GSM) blend. By happenstance the Grenache and Mourvèdre was picked on the exact same day. I chose not to co-ferment them then as I wanted to see what each vineyard and varietal brought to the table. For those that don't know co-fermenting is when you essentially marry the grapes as grapes and press, ferment, and age as one rather than blending the different wines later in the process. When I realized both were delicious and making it in the final blend I told myself I would co-ferment in 2023 if they came in on the same day again. It's as if those two vineyards were linked because it happened again. That year I still only made the Parade Rest GSM and GSM reserve. Now, the 2024 harvest was upon us and I was changing my focus to make more individual wines and I really, really wanted a single varietal Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. I told the winemaking team do not co-ferment the Grenache and Mourvèdre. I emailed it, I texted it, I verbally told them... I show up to the winery and they had co-fermented them. I was MAD. Well, fast forward about 8 months and I'm tasting through all the barrels to make a game plan for bottling and lo and behold the co-fermented Grenache - Mourvèdre is the best wine in the cellar. I decided to set aside two barrels and make the Good to Go Grenache - Mourvèdre. My personal favorite red.
